Where are you starting from?

Four shelves, sorted by where you are now rather than by programming language. Pick the sentence that sounds like you.

A person at a desk starting to write code on a laptop

Starting from an empty file

You have never written a line of HTML and a code editor looks like the cockpit of a plane.

3 courses · £521–£768

A small business owner working on a laptop in her shop

Running your own website

You have a business, a club or a practice, and you would rather change your own website than wait for someone else to.

3 courses + 1 track · £594–£1,968

Making pages that respond

You can build a page. Now you want it to react: menus, forms, data from elsewhere, a small app.

4 courses + 1 track · £1,159–£2,563

Open the shelf
A laptop showing code on a tidy desk, ready to publish

Getting it online and fast

The site works on your laptop. Version control, hosting, a domain and a page that loads quickly are what is left.

One lesson, opened up

Thirteen lines from Layout with Flexbox and Grid, unit ‘CSS Grid in practice’. Each lesson works like this: a few lines on screen, and every one of them explained.

cards.css
  1. .cards {
  2. display: grid;
  3. grid-template-columns: repeat(3, minmax(0, 1fr));
  4. gap: 1.5rem;
  5. }
  6. .cards .feature {
  7. grid-column: span 2;
  8. }
  9. /* one column on narrow screens */
  10. @media (max-width: 40em) {
  11. .cards { grid-template-columns: 1fr; }
  12. .cards .feature { grid-column: auto; }
  13. }
  1. repeat(3, minmax(0, 1fr)) makes three columns that share the width equally. The 0 lets a long word shrink its column instead of pushing the page sideways.

  2. span 2 lets the featured card take two of the three columns. The other cards flow into the spaces left over.

  3. Below 40em, about the width of a phone, the grid drops to one column and the featured card goes back to normal size.

result · 3 columns

A three-column grid: the featured card spans the first two columns, four plain cards fill the rest.

README.md

/* the fine print */

Better to read this now than after you have paid. These are recorded courses, and a recording can only do so much.

/* 18 months, streamed */

What these courses are not

  1. Recorded and streamed only. You watch the lessons online; the videos cannot be downloaded.
  2. No tutor, mentor or code review. Nobody marks your work. Each exercise shows the finished code on screen so you can check your own.
  3. No certificate or accreditation. What you keep is the work you built and the understanding behind it.
  4. No job placement or promise of work. The courses teach skills; they do not find you a job or a client.
  5. You need a computer, not just a phone. A laptop or desktop with a current browser and a free code editor. What to set up before you start.
  6. Access lasts 18 months. Long enough to finish at a gentle pace and go back over the parts you need.

Questions, answered plainly

The things people ask before buying. If yours is not here, get in touch or use the chat in the corner of the page: a person reads and answers it, not a bot.

How do I get access after paying?

We email your access details within one working day, to the address you gave at checkout, from hello@webblearning.co.uk. Your order page also shows what you bought and what happens next.

How long can I watch?

18 months from the day your access starts. Watch the lessons as often as you like in that time, in any order.

Is there a tutor or code review?

No. The courses are recorded, with no live tutor, mentoring or marking. Every exercise ends with the finished code on screen, so you can compare it with yours.

Do I get a certificate?

No. There is no certificate and the courses are not accredited. What you have at the end is the work you built yourself.

Which course should I start with?

If you have never written HTML, start with HTML and CSS: Your First Page, Line by Line (£521). Otherwise pick the shelf that matches where you are, or let the planner line up the order for you.

What computer do I need?

A laptop or desktop running Windows, macOS or Linux, a current browser and a free code editor. A phone or tablet is fine for watching, not for doing the exercises. Before you start walks through the set-up.

Can I get a refund?

The courses are digital content. At checkout you ask for access to start straight away and confirm that you lose your right to cancel once access begins, as the Consumer Contracts Regulations allow. If a course is faulty, for example lessons will not play, tell us and we will put it right. The cancellation section of our Terms sets out the details.
